Do You Sit All Day? Time To Take A Stand
Being sedentary isn’t good for you, especially as you get older, reports a new study of 93,000 postmenopausal American women in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
In fact, the more time you devote to sitting and resting (not sleeping), the greater your risk of an earlier death compared with your more active peers. Women who are idle, with more than 11 hours of daily sedentary time, could be more prone to cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease or cancer compared with women who have four hours or less of inactivity a day.
Researchers also say that it’s not enough to be fit and go to the gym regularly. You should get up and move frequently, whether at your desk at work or when watching television.
